Thank you 🙂 I am glad it resonated with you and I will certainly look up Lyra's conversation. We have enough time not to rush, but not so much time that we can squander it.
I LOVE THIS ESSAY!?! OH MY GOODNESS IM GLAD HE HELPED A TON WITH MAKING U THINK DEEPLY with just that one question, i'm locked tf in after reading this ur making me mad aware now, i was already operating on "alright yeah i know i'm gonna die one day, no big deal it's inevitable so no need to be scared really, it's just cool and allat", then u said "awareness of death. how it changes in 15 years." and how that affects what the mind feels and does, and what u said abt "most ppl living automatically"- i was already comfortable with knowing i was gonna die, but i was NOT aware till this essay that, "OH SHIT, I'm gonna DIE and that means how am I gonna live knowing that knowledge!?! My actions!!!?!?!", and now I am deadass more aware, this can help me a ton, i'm not go na make it make me feel "go go go", but I AM gonna wanna utilize that energy that is brought from "yo i finna die, time limited", and let THAT be a great way to push me into action, since action creates and precedes readiness, SHYTTTTT I'm locked in I gotta print this on the wall or smth ONE SEC IM FINNA DO THAT. Thank u for writing this essay btw
I highly recommend folks read His Dark Materials, for the conversation Lyra has with her Shade of Death, and why she never saw him before.
Thank you for sharing this, and insisting that choosing to meander and choosing to move are the crux, not to shame into freezing or panicking.

Dr. Dan, this was a lovely essay to wake up to.
Thank you Hilary!
